How do I download eBooks from EBSCO?
Answer
eBooks from EBSCO eBooks can be "checked out" and downloaded to your computer or any Adobe Digital Editions-compatible device.
Note: downloading eBooks is not required to read them. You can read the eBooks within the database right from your computer.
Before attempting to download an eBook from EBSCO, please make sure that:
- You're downloading to a device that supports Adobe Digital Editions. eBooks can be downloaded to your PC, and most tablets and mobile devices.
- You have a JCC email and password login. This is your normal login to MyJCC.
- You have Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer or device. Adobe Digital Editions is a free program that allows you to load the entire eBook for viewing and transfer it to a device. For more information about how to download Adobe Digital Editions, check out the FAQ: How do I download Adobe Digital Editions?.
- You have or plan to create a free account within the EBSCO eBook database. You will need to create a free account in the EBSCO database (called My EBSCOhost) to be able to send the eBook to Adobe Digital Editions (more information on creating an EBSCO account is available below).
Note: When you download an eBook from EBSCO it will only be available on your computer or device for 7 days. After the 7 day period is up you can download the book again if you'd like to. This 7 day period is set by the vendor/publisher and is not something that the library can change.
Some eBook databases only allow a certain number of users to view or download an eBook at the same time. If you get a message indicating that you cannot view or download an eBook because it is "checked out" or being viewed by another user, please try again later or ask a librarian at Ask the Libraries or 716.338.1136 for assistance finding an alternative resource.
