What is a library catalog?

Answer

It is important to know what a catalog is and how it functions, so that you can use other libraries in the future!

A library catalog is a specialized database of all items (example: books, eBooks, DVDs, audio recordings, and more) held within that library.  All the items in a catalog are organized so that they can be searched by title, author, subject or keyword.  Each physical item has a unique "call number" so that it can be found on the shelf.

JCC Library's catalog is part of the discovery tool PRIMO. It is located on the homepage of the JCC Library (click on Search Primo). PRIMO is special because in addition to items available for checkout, it will also show you items that may only be available for in-library use (such as course reserves) or items that we do not hold but may be available from other SUNY libraries.
