How do I place materials on reserve in the library?

I would like to make supplement reading materials or a course textbook available for use in the library.

Answer

If you need assistance in identifying supplemental or OER reading materials for use in your class or as part of your committee work, please contact the libraries' reference desk.

If you have print, media, or electronic materials already selected to place on reserve, please note the following guidelines so we can provide efficient service for all.

Please allow at least 24 hours for us to process the reserve material, before it is available for check out.

  1. If you would like to place an article or book on reserve, please bring your copy/copies to the Circulation Desk and fill out a reserve card.
  2. The library cannot duplicate articles for reserve.  This should be done in your divisional office.  Copyright compliance must be followed.  ONLY 3 COPIES per article may be placed on reserve.
  3. Reserves may be placed as:
    • in library use only (2 hours)
    • overnight
    • special loan of 3 days or 1 week
  4. Reserves are filed by course, then by the title of the book/article or media.  Please be sure your students are given the same title of the material placed on reserve so we are able to retrieve the correct item.
  5. The library does not purchase textbooks to be placed on reserve.
  6. Personal materials and duplicated articles are returned at the end of each semester unless otherwise requested by the instructor.

Please let students know that they MUST have their picture ID/library card to check out reserve items even if they are in-library use only.

If reserve items are not returned by students, the library pursues the delinquent material by sending out an overdue notice and bill to the student for the value of the material.  However, the library cannot guarantee the return of any personal materials, particularly if they circulate outside the library.

Contact the Circulation Desk if you have additional questions.
