What is a scholarly journal?
Answer
Scholarly, academic or peer-reviewed journal articles are written by scholars or professionals who are experts in their fields. In the sciences and social sciences, they often publish original research results. Here are some suggestions to find scholarly, academic or peer-reviewed articles:
- From the Library homepage click on Search Primo, enter your search term and change the searchbox drop-down list to Articles. Look at the facet list on the right side of the results (on a tablet or mobile device, look for the filter icon) to limit "Availability" to Peer-Reviewed Journals. Each result will contain a link to the article in a database, or in print from the JCC libraries' periodical collection.
- For more focused results, search the JCC Library Databases individually:
- Most library databases have an option/checkbox to limit results to scholarly/peer-reviewed articles, while some, like PsycARTICLES, contain only scholarly articles.
- If you are looking for articles on a specific subject (example: Nursing), use the "All Subjects" drop-down menu on the A-Z Databases page and select a subject area to filter the list of databases to just that subject.
- For more information about Primo and to find database tutorials go to the JCC Library Tutorials and Guides Libguide.
- Please Note: If you are off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your JCC username and password in order to access the databases.
