How do I make a hanging indent in Word or Google Docs?

Answer

  • To create a hanging indent in Word.
    • Highlight the text to be indented
    • Select the Home tab
    • Click on the little arrow in the lower right side of the Paragraph menu item (if you are using Word on a Mac, click "Format" on the main menu and select "Paragraph")
    • Under Indentation, select Hanging from the Special drop-down box
    • Click the OK button
  • Shortcut in Word:  highlight the text and press the Control key along with the letter T.
  • In Google Docs, highlight the text to be indented.
    • go to Format from the top menu bar
    • Select Align & indent>Indentation options>Special Indent>Hanging.
