Where can I find NAICS codes?
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), according to the U.S. Census Bureau, "is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy." NAICS replaced the SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) in 1997.
The U.S. Census Bureau site (link below) has a search feature that allows you to find NAICS codes by keyword.
You can also use the JCC Library databases to find NAICS information:
Business Insights: Essentials Click on"Industries" in the menu bar, then search for an industry name, for example, "Restaurants". Select one of the results to see the NAICS code, as well as information about the industry.
LexisNexis Company Dossiers Enter a company name, for example, Tim Hortons. Click on one of the results to see the associated NAICS code.
Statistical Abstract of the U.S. (Proquest) Search by keyword (example: Food and NAICS) or browse through the Table of Contents to find a subject, for example, Business Enterprise, Manufactures or Agriculture to find tables that include NAICS codes.
The library databases can be found from the Library Homepage. Click on Databases by Title or Databases by Subject under SEARCH COLLECTIONS. Try Databases by Subject; Select "Business" from the dropdown list at the top of the page, click on "Apply" for a list of business-related databases.
Remember, if you are off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your student ID and password in order to access the databases.
The Business Libguide (link below) contains additional sources you may find helpful. There are other Libguides (research guides created by the JCC Librarians) containing resources and research help on many different subjects.
